TWO first half goals proved enough for Wexford to take three valuable points over a disappointing Kerry side in this Division 1 game at Ferrycarrig Park.
Wexford went into this game on a wave of optimism having put together a sequence of promising displays knowing that three points would lift them up the table.
Kerry, as a result of Longford Town's victory early in the week, dropped to the bottom of the table having failed to win any of their previous five game's with the result they were desperate in need of points.
It was a lacklustre start as both sides struggled to leave a worthwhile imprint on the game during the opening ten minutes with not a single direct shot on goal.
Wexford forced two early corner kicks both of which were capably dealt with by the visitors, who had to wait until the fifteenth minute for their opening attack.
Valerii Dolia made progress down the left dent over an excellent cross but there was no support player to apply the finishing touch.
Twenty-three minutes into the game the homeside broke the deadlock when Thomas Oluwa got on the end of a Mark Hanratty cross to fire home from close in to make it 1-0.
Wexford added a peach of a second goal. Hanratty having won possession sent a low thirty metre screamer to the corner of the net giving his side a deserved 2-0 lead on thirty-three minutes.
Kerry came close to opening their account when Ryan Kelleher disposed keeper Mason, who redeemed himself recovering to turn his shot out for a fruitless corner kick leaving the homeside to take in a 2-0 interval lead.
Kerry showed much improvement on the resumption as they laid siege to the home goal forcing an early corner when Kevin Williams saw his shot deflected away but keeper Mason dealt capably with the inswinging kick.
With Kerry unable to get that breakthrough for that much needed goal, Wexford gradually wrested back control. But as the play deteriorated the closing ten minutes provided little in the way of entertainment for the 410 attendance.
