IT'S not that long ago that Jurgen Klopp’s relationship with the League Cup could most generously be described as ambiguous.

There was a period when the Liverpool manager’s team selections in the competition suggested his priorities lay elsewhere. If that was the case, however, a second final in three years points to a clear recognition of the value an early piece of silverware can add to a season.
