Roy Keane was back in the Manchester United dressing room he used to run alongside Alex Ferguson prior to the Man United v Tottenham fixture on Sunday.Ā
The Cork native, aptly, went down memory lane to tell the tale of the David Beckham v Ferguson bootgate incident.Ā
Who needs pre-match analysis, eh?
Back in 2003, after Manchester United had lost to Arsenal in the FA Cup, Beckham needed stitches above his left eye due to an accidentalĀ strike of a boot from then-United boss Ferguson.
More than two decades on, Keane has given us a first-hand lowdown on what happened, noting he used 'to love all the stuff' that happened inside dressing rooms during his playing days.Ā
Speaking on from inside the Old Trafford dressing room, Keane remarked: "I think Becks was over there somewhere, somewhere there at the mirror.
"I think the manager had a go at him for not tracking back and I think Becks said something back.
"It was an accident! He struck it well, but he was so unfortunate, honestly."
"Listen, he struck it well" š

He added: "If it was anybody else it would have been fine but because it was Becks at the time, and obviously Becks was so high profile, and like Jamie [Redknapp], a good-looking guy, that created one or two issues.
"But that all happens in dressing rooms. I used to love all that stuff."
It has since emerged that Ferguson had not been aiming for Beckham's eye, but rather a pile of football gear in the surroundings of the former England captain.
