Ireland U21 international midfielder Conor Coventry has completed a move from West Ham to League One side Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

Academy graduate Coventry made his Premier League debut in August 2022 and has been out on loan with Lincoln City, Peterborough United, MK Dons and Rotherham United. In all, he made 10 appearances for the Hammers' first team.

The 23-year-old's contract was due to expire at the end of the season and the Hammers have decided to agree the deal now.

Sheffield Wednesday were also in the running for Coventry but he was given permission to undergo a medical at The Valley on Thursday and the deal was announced this morning.

West Ham said: "Everyone at West Ham United would like to thank Conor for his efforts during his time at the Club, and wish him well for his future career."

Charlton head coach Michael Appleton, who worked with Coventry at Lincoln City, commented: "I'm delighted we've been able to sign Conor. He's someone that quite a few years ago I took on his very first loan at Lincoln. To be able to be reunited with him on a permanent deal I'm delighted with.

"He's very, very comfortable on the ball and knows his position really well. He's a good passer of the ball, with good technique, and he's got a steeliness to him as well which I like - a bit of nastiness to him. He's one who lives his life right and is a proper professional."
