The fact that Brighton won five of their first six games but are without a victory in the past five and have yet to record a clean sheet suggest that Dyche is not the only coach to have worked the Seagulls out.

Early this season Brighton were briefly top of the Premier League and Everton bottom. Since then the two clubs seem to have been working their way towards each other nearer the middle of the table, albeit via contrasting routes.

Saturday’s match would have continued that trend but for Brighton’s late leveller. Everton looked to be on course for a sixth win in eight matches in all competitions after Vitalij Mykolenko had given them an early lead and Brighton had fallen into the trap set by Sean Dyche’s game plan.
