“Greece were clinical - we weren’t,” was Stephen Kenny’s conclusion off his latest point of no return in the Ireland job.

Greece’s completion of the double over Ireland officially ended their Euro 2024 qualification hopes, leaving the last two games, away to Gibraltar and Netherlands, as dead rubbers.

This was the campaign Kenny asked to be judged on and after three years at the helm his positive side remains intact.

“We had a lot of shots just going wide from our midfield players and a lot of set plays, maybe not of the quality wanted.

“And then to concede the second goal the 45th minute was a killer. Behind 2-0 at half-time made it was difficult but I actually thought we played well in the second-half for long periods.

“So there wasn’t enough. A disappointing result and a disappointing night. Greece were clinical, taking their opportunities and we weren’t.”
