Denmark name initial 20-man squad for Ireland showdown

Denmark have named an initial 20-man squad for their final Euro 2020 qualifiers against Gibraltar and the Republic of Ireland.

Åge Hareide's squad includes the usual high-profile names such as Christian Eriksen, Kasper Schmeichel, and captain Simon Kjær.

There is also a call-up for uncapped Brentford midfielder Christian Nørgaard.

The injury-hit trio of Chelsea centre-back Andreas Christensen, Udinese full-back Jens Stryger Larsen, and Nice striker Kasper Dolberg are the most notable absentees, while Feyenoord forward Nicolai Jørgensen also misses out.

Hareide will add three more names to his squad later this week to complete his 23-man selection.

Goalkeepers: Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester City), Frederik Rønnow (Eintracht Frankfurt), Jesper Hansen (Midtjylland).

Defenders: Simon Kjær (Atalanta), Mathias 'Zanka' Jørgensen (Fenerbahçe), Peter Ankersen (Genoa), Jonas Knudsen (Malmö), Henrik Dalsgaard (Brentford), Joachim Andersen (Lyon).

Midfielders: Daniel Wass (Valencia), Christian Eriksen (Tottenham Hotspur), Lasse Schöne (Genoa), Thomas Delaney (Borussia Dortmund), Christian Nørgaard (Brentford), Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (Southampton), Robert Skov (Hoffenheim).

Forwards: Yussuf Poulsen (RB Leipzig), Andreas Cornelius (Parma), Christian Gytkjær (Lech Poznań), Martin Braithwaite (Leganés).
