UEFA confirmed that in every Champions League and Europa League game this week, a minute's silence will be observed in memory of Emiliano Sala.

UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said in a statement: "On behalf of everyone at UEFA, I would like to express my sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of Emiliano Sala for their loss.

I am deeply saddened that his life was so cruelly taken away at such a young age and I urge supporters across the continent to pay their respects to his memory over the coming days.

A fundraising campaign to restart the search for the pilot has so far raised over £174,000 (€198,000).

A donation under the name of broadcaster and former footballer Gary Lineker of £1,000 (€1,100) is registered on the page, which he shared with his 7.2 million Twitter followers on Saturday.

A £27,000 (€31,000) donation under the name Elie Lottin, apparently made by France’s World Cup-winning footballer Kylian Sanmi Mbappe Lottin, is also registered.

The Champions League round of 16 kicks off this evening with Man United welcoming PSG and Roman taking on Porto.

UEFA have said clubs have the option of wearing black armbands in memory of Sala.
