The rivalry between the United States and Mexico has long been the fiercest in North American football, but there are fears of the atmosphere turning nasty in Friday's encounter following the election of Donald Trump as US president.

Trump launched his candidacy over a year ago with a promise to build a wall between the two countries to stop illegal immigration, calling for mass deportations and claiming that many Mexican immigrants were rapists or other criminals. On Tuesday, the billionaire Republican upset the polls with a shock victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton.
