Dundalk lose battle in Belarus but retain hope for return leg

BATE Borisov 1 Dundalk 0

Dundalk have been beaten in the first-leg of their Champions League qualifier against BATE Borisov.

The Lilywhites held-out for 70 minutes in Belarus, before their resistence was finally broken.

A sloppy clearance from Sean Gannon allowed BATE to get the opener as substitute Mikhail Gordeychuk scored with a low strike that beat Gary Rogers at his near post.

The Belarussian side will feel that they should have won by more after dominating the tie.

However the narrow defeat will give Dundalk some hope ahead of the return leg next week at the Tallaght Stadium.
