Sturridge and Firmino vying to replace injured Origi

Liverpool striker Divock Origi will miss several weeks with ankle ligament damage so manager Jurgen Klopp is likely to choose between Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino for the visit of Newcastle.

Christian Benteke has recovered from a knee injury but has not yet trained and will not be involved on Saturday.

Joe Allen could get a start if Klopp decides to rotate his midfield from Wednesday's Merseyside derby.

Defender Kevin Mbabu will return to the Newcastle squad for the trip to Liverpool.

Mbabu, who has been working his way back from a thigh problem, is available, but skipper Fabricio Coloccini (calf) and full-back Daryl Janmaat (groin and hand) are still missing.

Keepers Tim Krul and Rob Elliot (both knee) and defenders Steven Taylor (muscle strain) and Massadio Haidara (knee) also remain on the sidelines.

Provisional Liverpool squad: Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno, Milner, Lucas, Ojo, Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino, Ward, Toure, Smith, Allen, Stewart, Ibe, Sturridge.

Provisional Newcadtle squad: Darlow, Woodman, Dummett, Mbemba, Lascelles, Mbabu, Gibson, Colback, Wijnaldum, Sissoko, Shelvey, Townsend, Saivet, De Jong, Anita, Gouffran, Aarons, Obertan, Mitrovic, Cisse, Perez, Doumbia, Riviere.
