Now it appears that his contempt for the media is escalating, with a video clip showing him delivering a cheeky slap to a journalist after what he saw as a silly question.

The clip is apparently from his post-match press conference on Saturday, where the reporter asked the Dutch manager if he has any interest in signing former Arsenal and Chelsea left back Ashley Cole.

Van Gaal found the question so ridiculous that simply saying no wasn’t an adequate response.

“He didn’t play for a year,” he answered, before delivering a cheeky double pat to the cheek to emphasize his response.

We're guessing that's a no.
