Watch the moment a young fan is surprised by his idol Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney and the Manchester United Foundation have combined to reward a young fan for proving himself a selfless and caring son.
15-year-old James King was given tickets to attend a Man United match by his school, who have links with the Foundation.
However, James’s mother wasn’t well and so he returned the tickets to his teachers, telling them he needed to look after her instead of going to the game.
Word of what James had done got back to the club and they decided to arrange a special reward.
James, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, was brought to an interview at the Aon Training Complex thinking he was going to talk about his involvement with the Foundation.
But the teenager was stunned when his idol appeared from behind him during the recording.
“I’ve heard your mum hasn’t been too well and I know you couldn’t make a previous game,” Rooney said.
“So me and the team have signed a shirt for you and got you two VIP tickets – we’ll make sure you can go this time.”
James was overwhelmed, saying the United and England captain was his idol and he had always dreamed of meeting him.
Rooney stayed and chatted with the overcome schoolboy, talking about his favourite goals.
That’s one young fan whose Christmas dreams have already come true.
