So when McClean posted a picture of his latest tattoo on Twitter last night, the trolls were out in force looking for something to criticise.

And they thought they had found something. The tattoo, created to celebrate the birth of McClean’s son, had the boy’s date of birth - with his time of birth shown on a watch face.

The numbers on the watch were represented in Roman numerals, with four represented by IIII.

Commenters online were oh-so-quick to point out that in Roman numerals four is represented by IV.

Needless to say, the West Brom winger had the last laugh.

We did some intensive research (google image search for “pocket watch”) and yep, he’s right.
