A League of Ireland player has tested positive for a banned substance, believed to be cocaine.

Traces of the drug appeared in a random test taken last month after a domestic fixture.

The Sun reported the positive test this morning, but the player has not been named.

The footballer has not played for his club recently, and could now face a ban and a large fine.

The FAI have yet to comment on the story.
