Strong rumours linking Martin O'Neill to Premier League role

By Kevin Murphy

Republic of Ireland football manager Martin O’Neill is being linked with a shock move to his former club, Leicester City.

Booking firm William Hill have suspended betting on the appointment this morning.

The move would be a huge blow to the FAI, with Ireland still holding out hope of qualification for the European Championships.

O’Neill enjoyed an excellent time at Leicester in the 1990s and would be a popular choice with the club's fans.

Hills decision to suspend betting was announced after some large bets were placed on the Derry man.

“There are some people out there who seem convinced that O’Neill is very close to getting the job if he hasn’t accepted the role already,” said William hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
