Shamrock Rovers boss: ‘Any club would be mad if they didn't want Damien Duff’

Ireland’s Damien Duff looks set to finish his career in the SSE Airtricity League, with Shamrock Rovers boss Pat Fenlon telling Newstalk’s Off The Ball the club are in discussions with the former Chelsea star.

"We spoke to Damien and we had a good chat with him,” Fenlon said.

“We sort of parked it because he was doing his coaching badges and we were involved in a European game.”

“Obviously, we've progressed in that as well so I'm sure we will speak again over the next few days,” he said.“So we'll see where it gets.

“But I've said it before, I think any club would be mad if they didn't want Damien Duff in their squad and that's something we would be interested in."

There have been rumours online that the winger intends to donate his wages to charity while playing for the League of Ireland side.

Duff, now 36, played for Blackburn, Chelsea, Newcastle and Fulham during his career and has two Premier League medals with Chelsea.

He spent last season playing in Australia with Melbourne City, but left that club with the intention to finish his playing career in Ireland.
