PICS: Man United target Vidal held for ‘drink driving’ after crashing his Ferrari

Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal was detained by Chilean police and spent Tuesday night in a precinct in Santiago after crashing his Ferrari while reportedly under the influence of alcohol.

Currently playing for hosts Chile at the Copa America, Vidal had travelled with his wife to a casino that is south of the Chilean capital.

On their return to Santiago, he was involved in a collision with two other cars.

Vidal tweeted: “Regrettably I was involved in a traffic accident. Luckily we are all well and calm. Thanks for the concerns.”

The 28-year-old player and his wife were taken to a nearby hospital after suffering minor injuries.

Police colonel Ricardo Gonzalez indicated to Chilean TV station Canal 13 that Vidal had been drink driving.

“The driver of the red car was under the influence of alcohol,” he said.

According to Chilean newspaper La Tercera, Vidal will appear in court in Santiago on Wednesday at 10 am local time where he is expected to be released on bail.

Neither Chile’s Football Federation (FFCH) nor Vidal’s club Juventus have commented on the events.

Vidal is the top scorer in the Copa America with three goals, scoring two in Monday’s 3-3 draw against Mexico.

Chile had previously beaten Ecuador 2-0 in their tournament opener and top their group, level on four points with Bolivia, who are second.

La Roja, coached by Jorge Sampaoli, play their third and final group A game against Bolivia in Santiago on Friday.
