Sky News sorry for ‘bog-trotting’ comments about Stephanie Roche’s former club

Sky News have apologised after one of its paper reviewers referred to Peamount United as “some bog-trotting side” on air yesterday morning.

Stephanie Roche’s Puskas nomination was discussed during the review of the morning papers and they showed a clip of her scoring the famous goal for the Dublin side.

The Sun Political Editor Tom Newton Dunn described the goal.

“Watch what she does here, turn and right in the back of the net,” he said. “A truly terrific goal from some...um...bog-trotting side in Ireland somewhere."

The comment was picked up immediately by social media, and viewers were unimpressed with Newton Dunn’s remarks.

The Sun journalist’s knowledge of geography was also called into question.

The Herald reported today that Sky said the journalist was merely pointing out how brilliant the goal was from such a small club.

The broadcaster said there was no offence meant by the comment.
