Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane has been won the Most Valuable Player award in Major League Soccer for the 2014 season.

Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane has been won the Most Valuable Player award in Major League Soccer for the 2014 season.

Keane - who plies his trade with Los Angeles Galaxy - beat out Obafemi Martins of the Seattle Sounders, New England Revolution’s Lee Nguyen and Bradley Wright-Phillips from the New York Red Bulls to claim the award.

Ireland’s record goalscorer has hit the net 19 times this season and offered-up 14 assists for his LA Galaxy teammates.

Keane will have the chance to add to his goal tally when LA Galaxy meet New England Revolution in Sunday’s MLS Cup final.
