O’Neill: I will talk to Martinez

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill has said he will talk to the Everton manager about the management of injuries to James McCarthy, Seamus Coleman and Darron Gibson.

It comes after O’Neill’s assistant, Roy Keane, said that he got “the impression from Everton that Seamus and James are both barely able to walk”.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright hit back at Keane for “saying some stupid things” and calling his comments “totally unfair”.

Keane took Roberto Martinez to task over his handling of injuries to Coleman and McCarthy, who both missed last month’s qualifiers with McCarthy also sitting out this time around after reporting with a hamstring problem.

Kenwright told Sky Sports News: “Roberto Martinez will be as shocked as everyone at Everton.”

When asked if he was going to talk to Martinez, O'Neill said: “I think I will. I may get a chance to go down and find out exactly what was said on both sides and take a view.”

The Ireland management are hoping Everton trio can help them qualify for Euro 2016, but midfielder McCarthy has missed the last three qualifiers through injury, including Friday’s loss to Scotland, while Coleman also missed last month’s draw with Germany.
