Scotland v Ireland gets the Fox Sports treatment

The good folks of Fox Soccer have previewed tonight’s match between Ireland and Scotland and managed to make a Euro 2016 qualifying match between two Celtic sides sound as American as mom’s apple pie.

“Both countries are pretty darn good.”

Damning the two countries with faint praise, the presenter also builds up the Celtic Park game as a continuation of an age-old battle, one we have presumably been fighting dubbed in woad “Braveheart”-style.

“These two have battled many times over the course of three centuries,” she informs us solemnly. “Add Euro qualifying into the mix and the tension couldn’t be higher.”

She goes on to detail how “both rosters are constructed” before saying that the undoubted star of the show is Robbie Keane, who in a complete coincidence plies his trade in US Major League Soccer.

“He doesn’t only score brilliant goals, his back-heel flicks and emotional appeals to the referee make any game he plays in an entertaining one.”

As the presenter says herself: “This one is going to be a treat.”
