Wenger leaves Sanchez on the bench for London derby

Chile international Alexis Sanchez had to again be content with a place on the bench as Arsenal took on Tottenham in the north London derby at the Emirates Stadium.

Club-record signing Mesut Ozil retained his place in the number 10 role, having been so influential in the 3-0 Barclays Premier League win at Aston Villa, while Jack Wilshere came back into midfield and Danny Welbeck led the attack as the Gunners looked to respond from the midweek Capital One Cup defeat by Southampton.

Tottenham gave a Premier League debut to 23-year-old midfielder Ryan Mason, while Belgian Jan Vertonghen was in defence and former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor up front.
