The Holland international is included in one of three changes to the side which lost 2-1 at home to Swansea last weekend, with he, Antonio Valencia and Tom Cleverley replacing Javier Hernandez, Jesse Lingard and Ander Herrera.

Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet makes two changes to the team which started the 2-2 draw at West Brom as Santiago Vergini and Will Buckley replaced Valentin Roberge and Adam Johnson.

Sunderland: Mannone, Vergini, O’Shea, Brown, Van Aanholt, Cattermole, Buckley, Larsson, Rodwell, Wickham, Fletcher.

Subs: Pantilimon, Jones, Bridcutt, Gomez, Altidore, Mavrias, Roberge.

Man Utd: De Gea, Jones, Smalling, Blackett, Valencia, Fletcher, Cleverley, Young, Mata, Rooney, van Persie.
