Grim World Cup merchandise with a difference

The jersey Camilo Zuniga was wearing when he broke Neymar’s back is up for sale.

The no. 18 jersey is apparently being auctioned online on bazarsports.com. It has been available since August 7 and bidding will close on August 25.

The jersey was worn by Zuniga during the Brazil v Colombia quarter-final. He barged into Neymar during the second half and the Brazilian star suffered broken vertebrae after the collision.

The seller doesn’t shy away from the jersey’s grisly history, mentioning the incident in the product description.

“(Zuniga) was making a good game, but was notable for a move that will sadly mark his career: after 41 minutes of the second half in a fight for the ball, Zuniga enters with great force and hits Neymar Jr. in the back with his knee. That caused a fracture in the Brazilian player's spine.”

“Even crucified by the media, the player has shown, along his career, that he is not an unfair athlete and that was just an isolated incident - with serious consequences. But that will not erase the brilliant Colombian campaign, which culminated with James Roberts as a top scorer, with six goals.”

At time of writing the bidding stands at $1,400. A bid of $10,000 is enough to secure the item immediately.
