Footballer gets yellow carded for unusual goal celebration

MLS Player takes selfie after scoring - is booked by the Irish referee.

MLS side Sporting Kansas City played Chicago Fire yesterday and their leading striker Dom Dwyer put them ahead in the 33rd minute.

Dwyer ran over to the crowd to celebrate but was handed a phone as he reached the sideline and leaned in with his teammate and took a selfie.

Supporters were delighted and ran over to join in the picture.

Referee on the day was Cork born Alan Kelly, a former Cork City player who has previously refereed in the League of Ireland.

Kelly was less impressed than the fans and gave Dwyer a yellow card for the celebration.

Some sports fans were also unimpressed and suggested he should be get a ban. The player himself had a quick answer for that on Twitter and referenced another recent soccer controversy.
