Govt gives official backing to FAI's 2020 bid

The FAI has been given official backing in its bid to host four matches of the 2020 European Championships.

Political approval for the bid was signed off by ministers at their Cabinet meeting this morning.

The FAI is hoping to hold four group stage matches in the Aviva Stadium.

The tournament in 2020 will not have a single host nation, but will be played across the continent to mark the competition's 60th anniversary.
