Irish footballer Mark O'Brien attempts awful 'Panenka' penalty

Ever since Andrea Pirlo lofted a beautiful ‘Panenka’ penalty into Joe Hart’s net at Euro 2012 the audacious shot has returned to prominence.

Originally attempted by Czech footballer Antonín Panenka as he stepped up to take the winning penalty against West Germany in the 1976 European Championships, the softly chipped style has since become a fan favourite.

Unfortunately for Swords Celtic’s Mark O'Brien, it’s likely to forever hold bad memories after his dreadful attempt at the weekend.

Hopefully, he finds some solace in the fact that even the best players in the world can sometimes get it wrong too, as evidenced by Corinthians’ Alexander Pato last year.
