Video: German player argues with ref, talks himself out of unfair penalty
Last night's Bundesliga game between Nurnberg and Werder Bremen was notable for a fantastic moment, even if you're not a fan of the German teams.
Werder's Aaron Hunt sprinted forward in to the box in the 74th minute on to the end of a short fast pass – and tumbled when he was bumped by an opposing player.
Or so it seemed.
The ref blew up for a penalty – but to Hunt's credit, he argued with the ref and talked himself out of being awarded a penalty, insisting contact hadn't been made.
Earlier in the game, an opposing player got the fair game ball rollingwhen he informed the referee he touched the ball last, handing over a goal kick his side could have taken a corner from.
Now, Werder Bremen were leading 2-0 at the time of the penalty, and perhaps it may have turned out differently if the scoreline had been reversed.
But nonetheless, it's the kind of sportsman ship every fan wants to see more of.
