Robbie accepts FAI Award with brilliant comedy sketch ending

Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane was unable to attend last night's FAI Awards, but he sent a video message in his absence.

The FAI gave the LA Galaxy forward the Senior International Player of the Year award this weekend in Dublin, while Everton's James McCarthy captured the Young International Player of the Year for the second year in a row.

However, it was Robbie's clip, sent due to his pre-season training commitments with LA Galaxy before the start of the MLS season, that had everyone laughing.

Filmed with LA Galaxy coach Bruce Arena, it features about a minute's worth of the usual platitudes before a brilliant moment of comedy.

Eskilstuna United's Louise Quinn was crowned the women's Senior International Player of the Year, Sean Murray was named the U21 Player of the Year, while Killian Brennan was voted the SSE Airtricity League Player of the year.

Shane Long's goal against England during a friendly last May was voted the Three International Goal of the Year.

Former Republic of Ireland midfielder, Ronnie Whelan was inducted into the FAI Hall of Fame, while Serbian legend Dejan Stankovic was awarded the International Personality of the Year award. Ciara Grant received the special merit award in recognition of her remarkable international career as one of the greatest female players in Irish football.
