Having suffered a 2-1 Capital One Cup exit to West Ham in his first match at the helm, Andre Villas-Boas’ replacement switched around the Spurs side.

Captain Michael Dawson returned after serving a suspension in midweek, while Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen and Roberto Soldado also came in.

Southampton made three alterations from last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Newcastle, with Danny Fox, Morgan Schneiderlin and Adam Lallana coming in.

Two of those replaced in the line-up, Luke Shaw and Dani Osvaldo, were absent from the bench.

Southampton: Gazzaniga, Chambers, Lovren, Hooiveld, Fox, Cork, Schneiderlin, Rodriguez, Steven Davis, Lallana, Lambert.

Subs: Yoshida, Fonte, Ramirez, Ward-Prowse, Reed, Gallagher, Cropper.

Spurs: Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Chiriches, Rose, Lamela, Eriksen, Dembele, Sigurdsson, Adebayor, Soldado.

Subs: Holtby, Capoue, Defoe, Chadli, Friedel, Bentaleb, Fredericks.
