Jon Walters has been handed the captain’s armband as Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill makes seven changes for the friendly clash with Poland in Poznan.

Walters, David Forde, Stephen Kelly, Sean St Ledger, Paul Green, Anthony Stokes and Shane Long are all included, with Keiren Westwood, Seamus Coleman, John O’Shea, Glenn Whelan, James McClean, Wes Hoolahan and Robbie Keane making way from the side which beat Latvia 3-0 on Friday evening.

Poland boss Adam Nawalka has named Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski, who scored 41 goals in his two seasons with Lech Poznan, in his starting line-up.
