Subotic blow for Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic has been ruled out for six months after tearing his cruciate knee ligaments in yesterday’s 2-1 defeat in Wolfsburg.
The Serbian picked up the injury during a challenge with Ivica Olic as the Wolves won their fourth game in a row and inflicted a second successive defeat on Dortmund, days after they were beaten in the Champions League by Arsenal.
According to the club doctor Markus Braun, 25-year-old Subotic will miss at least half a year, effectively ending his season prematurely.
“No worries, I will come back stronger,” said Subotic on his club’s website.
The injury was the cherry on top of a disappointing day for the Westphalians, who fell four points behind Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga table.
“It was a day to forget,” said their coach Jurgen Klopp to Sky television. “In all the tight situations, things somehow always managed to go against us.”
After the two-week international break, Dortmund host Bayern Munich in a top-of-the-table clash which has even more significance following Saturday’s results.
