Trapattoni talks up McCarthy move

Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni has admitted a move to Everton could provide a major boost to James McCarthy’s international career.

The 22-year-old midfielder has been given permission to delay joining up with the Republic ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Sweden and Austria with the Toffees understood to be stepping up their interest in him ahead of Monday night’s transfer deadline.
