Bayern pair out for Germany's upcoming World Cup qualifiers
Bayern Munich midfielders Mario Gotze and Bastian Schweinsteiger will miss Germany’s World Cup qualifiers against Austria and the Faroe Islands due to injury.
Gotze, 21, who joined Pep Guardiola’s European champions from Borussia Dortmund over the summer, tore ankle ligaments in the UEFA Super Cup win over Chelsea in Prague on Friday night.
He will be wearing a plaster cast for the next week and has been told he requires 14 days’ rest before returning to squad training.
Schweinsteiger, who missed the Super Cup through an injury he picked up against Freiburg on Tuesday, has also been forced to pull out of Joachim Low’s squad due to a knee joint distortion, according to Bayern’s website.
It was a busy day for Bayern’s club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt as he also had to treat Arjen Robben, who has been ruled out for three days with a knee injury, and Javi Martinez, who needs a five-day break from training, also due to a knee injury.
