Evan McMillan hit a late equaliser for champions Sligo Rovers to deprive St. Patrick's Athletic of a big win as the top of the table clash finished 1-1 at the Showgrounds.

Despite having led for most of the match, Liam Buckley's St. Pat's will nonetheless be happy with the draw as they bounced back well from their disappointment in bowing tamely out of Europe in midweek to extend their lead at the top of the Premier Division table to four points.

With four changes in their starting line-up from Thursday's Europa League defeat to Lithuanians Zalgiris, St. Pat's went ahead on 16 minutes from a route one goal. Keeper Brendan Clarke's long clearance bounced through for the run of Anto Flood who shot past Gary Rogers.

McMillan might have done better in shackling the threat of Flood, but the big central defender would make due amends when scoring Sligo's equaliser on 82 minutes.

Midfielder Seamus Conneely looped a header to the far post where McMillan arrived to power a header past Clarke.

Meanwhile, the late heroics of goalkeeper Mark McGinley earned UCD a vital point in their battle against relegation in an incident-packed 2-2 draw with Drogheda United at the UCD Bowl.

Declan O'Brien put Drogheda ahead on ten minutes with a cool finish from David Cassidy's through ball. Dean Clarke levelled for College nine minutes later with an equalled composed goal after he'd turned defender Alan Byrne to shoot home.

UCD then went in front from a James Kavanagh free-kick on 55 minutes before O'Brien hit back to equalise within a further minute following a right scramble at the other end.

Then, with Drogheda pressing in stoppage time, UCD had to defend frantically as first the width of a post deprived O’Brien of a hat-trick.

McGinley then made a terrific parry save to clear Michael Daly’s fiercely struck shot. From the resulting corner Byrne’s header was flicked goalwards by Gary O’Neill, but McGinley showed brilliant reflexes to tip the ball over the bar.
