Rovers rampant as they regain third
After four league games without a goal, champions Sligo Rovers got their season back on track as they came from behind to convincingly beat UCD 5-2 to regain third place in the table.
College stunned the Showgrounds to take a second minute lead. Striker David McMillan pounced a defensive mistake by Jeff Henderson to run through and shoot past Gary Rogers in the Sligo goal for his 10th league strike of the season.
Sligo responded well and were deserving of their equaliser on 27 minutes. In what appeared a training ground routine, Joseph Ndo picked out Aaron Greene from a free-kick and he in turn played the ball through for midfielder David Cawley to shoot under UCD 'keeper Conor O'Donnell.
Greene then put Sligo ahead three minutes into the second half, collecting a pass from Liam Martin to score with a terrific right-foot shot from the edge of the area.
Sligo then killed off UCD with two goals inside as many minutes.
First, UCD substitute Liam Traynor turned a cross from Cawley into his own net on 58 minutes.
Winger Kieran Djilali appeared to all but seal the points on the hour mark when shooting low to the bottom corner of the net following Seamus Conneely's pass.
UCD made a fight of it with Dean Clarke getting through one-on-one with Rogers to pull a second goal back three minutes later.
But man-of-the-match Ndo restored the home side's three-goal margin with a fifth strike for Sligo on 72 minutes, tapping home a deflected cross from Alan Keane.
