Sammon set for Ireland debut
Striker Conor Sammon will be handed a chance to stake his claim for a role in the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifying campaign with a senior debut against Poland tonight.
The Derby frontman will partner Shane Long in attack in Giovanni Trapattoni’s much-changed side, which features only two of the men – John O’Shea and Glenn Whelan – who started a game at last summer’s Euro 2012 finals.
Southampton’s Artur Boruc starts for the Poles, who also include Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski in their line-up.
