Van Persie on the bench for cup clash with Hammers

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson rested leading scorer Robin van Persie to the bench, but still named a strong XI for this afternoon’s FA Cup third round tie at West Ham.

Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez were in attack for the Barclays Premier League leaders, who also had Nemanja Vidic and Paul Scholes in the side, with Rio Ferdinand, Antonio Valencia, Ryan Giggs and Ashley Young joining van Persie on the bench.
