Carlos Tevez scored a 43rd-minute penalty as Manchester City recovered from falling behind early to Everton at the Etihad Stadium to reach half-time on level terms.

Marouane Fellaini fired home his eighth goal of the season in the 33rd minute to put the visitors in front, after his initial header had been saved by Joe Hart but rebounded into his path.

But Fellaini then proved the villain at the other end as he was penalised for wrestling Edin Dzeko to the ground in a crowded box, prompting referee Lee Probert to point to the spot.

Harry Redknapp’s first home game in charge of Queens Park Rangers got off to the worst possible start as Brett Holman blasted visitors Aston Villa in front after just eight minutes.

Jamie Mackie equalised 10 minutes later to make it 1-1 at the break but the first period ended in concern after Stephane Mbia was stretchered off following an off-the-ball collision with Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Daniel Agger ended Liverpool’s first-half frustration at Anfield with a 43rd-minute opener against struggling Southampton.

Jonjo Shelvey hit the bar for the hosts after 36 minutes and after Luis Suarez also hit the woodwork from a free-kick, Glen Johnson crossed the loose ball back in for Agger to head home.

Arsenal had Wojciech Szczesny to thank for reaching half-time level against Swansea at the Emirates.

The Swans had the better of the half with Angel Rangel forcing a superb double-save from the keeper, while Nathan Dyer also spurned a glorious opportunity.

Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris saved well from Mladen Petric in the best chance of a deadlocked first half against Fulham at Craven Cottage, while it was also goalless between West Brom and Stoke at the break.
