Steven Naismith says he is fit and ready to make his Barclays Premier League debut for Everton at home to Manchester United on Monday night – and hopes Toffees boss Davie Moyes feels the same.

The 25-year-old forward joined the Goodison Park club from Rangers in the summer after recovering from a cruciate ligament injury which decimated his last season at Ibrox.

After playing in Scotland’s 3-1 friendly win over Australia at Easter Road last night, Naismith turned his attention to United and possibly, his first appearance in the English top flight.

“I am looking forward to it,” he said. “I have a good pre-season and all that hard work is going to be put into practise.

“Hopefully with what I have done in pre-season and what I do in training in the next few days, I can show the manager that I am capable of starting.”
