Alex Ferguson today confirmed Manchester United had made a bid for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie.

Alex Ferguson today confirmed Manchester United had made a bid for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie.

It is understood that United failed to meet the Gunners' valuation of Van Persie, with Manchester City and Juventus having also fallen short.
