Trapattoni reassures McCarthy over Republic future

Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni has promised James McCarthy he has a future at senior international level despite missing out on the Euro 2012 finals.

The 21-year-old Wigan midfielder revealed yesterday that he had asked not to be selected for this summer’s tournament because his father is undergoing cancer treatment.
