Sunderland skipper Lee Cattermole will appear in court today accused of vandalising five cars close to the home of his club’s arch-rivals.

Cattermole will face five counts of criminal damage at Newcastle Magistrates Court.

Cattermole, 23, from Aislaby near Yarm, Teesside, was accused alongside Sunderland’s Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner, but the case against the on-loan Arsenal man was dropped a fortnight ago.

The charges relate to five cars which were allegedly damaged on December 6 last year in Stowell Street, close to Newcastle United’s Sports Direct Arena.
