Drogheda United look to reward home support

Drogheda United will look to continue their impressive start to the campaign when they host third-placed Derry City at Hunky Dorys Park this evening (kick-off: 7.45pm).

Mick Cooke’s side have won impressively in Cork and Bray recently, but are looking for their first home win.

The Candystripes sit third with just a loss in Shelbourne two weeks ago denying them a perfect start to the new campaign.

These sides drew when they last met and it is likely to be a tight encounter again this evening.

Drogheda’s Cathal Brady is the only definite absentee while Peter Hynes, Ryan Brennan and Declan O'Brien are all doubts.

Derry City are without Eddie MaCallion due to an ankle injury while Stephen McLaughlin (hamstring) and Patrick McEleney (toe) will undergo late fitness tests.

Drogheda United manager Mick Cooke: “Derry City are going to push Shamrock Rovers all the way this season and it's going to be a tough match.

“Declan Devine has carried on from Stephen Kenny and they are no pushovers. It will no doubt be a big test for us.”

Derry City manager Declan Devine knows his side face a tough task.

“We fully expect a very difficult game in Drogheda.” he said. “Mick Cooke has not just strengthened his starting eleven but his squad as a whole.

“I feel that Mick has added some talented players and with eight goals scored in their first four games they now pose a real goal-scoring threat to any team.”
