Swansea were on course to record their third successive Barclays Premier League win after establishing a deserved 1-0 half-time lead in their clash at Fulham today.

Buoyed by last week’s stunning 1-0 victory over Manchester City, which followed a 2-0 triumph over Wigan, the promoted side edged the opening period at Craven Cottage thanks to Gylfi Sigurdsson’s 36th-minute goal.

The on-loan Iceland international got on the end of a Scott Sinclair cross to plant a header past Mark Schwarzer to boost Swansea’s hopes of climbing above Fulham and up to eighth spot in the standings.

In today’s other match, Wigan were goalless at home to West Brom at half-time at the DW Stadium.

Rock-bottom Wigan are looking to provisionally move out of the relegation zone today, but to do that they must achieve something they have only managed once in the league so far this season – win at home.

The home side had the better of the first half chances but twice saw efforts come back off the crossbar.

In the 16th minute Emmerson Boyce headed against the woodwork while six minutes before the break James McCarthy also hit the frame of the goal with a thunderous effort.
