Ryan Nelsen made his full debut as Tottenham looked to avoid an upset and move in to the last eight of the FA Cup with a win over League One side Stevenage at the Lamex Stadium.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp made gave starts to Jermain Defoe, Carlo Cudicini and Jake Livermore in a team that contained six changes from the XI that beat Newcastle 5-0 last week.

Former Tottenham players Chris Day and Ronnie Henry started for Stevenage, who were playing in the fifth round for the first time in their history.

Stevenage: Day, Henry, Ashton, Roberts, Laird, Wilson, Byrom, Bostwick, Freeman, Charles, Beardsley.

Subs: Julian, Edwards, Long, Reid, Myrie-Williams, May, Cowan.

Tottenham: Cudicini, Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Nelsen, Rose, Parker, Livermore, Bale, Saha, Defoe.
