Rooney set to face Basle

Wayne Rooney will begin what could be a productive 24 hours by carrying the striking burden for Manchester United when they tackle Basle in the Champions League tomorrow.

Rooney faces a UEFA appeal on Thursday when he hopes to have his three-match Euro 2012 ban reduced but before that, he will help United try to secure the point required to reach the second phase.

Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez (both ankle) have been ruled out and Michael Carrick is suspended.

Squad: De Gea, Lindegaard, Amos, Evans, Smalling, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Jones, Fryers, Cole, Fletcher, Young, Valencia, Park, Gibson, Nani, Giggs, Macheda, Rooney, Welbeck, Diouf.
