Harry Redknapp last night defended his decision to rest several first-team stars as Tottenham were left on the brink of Europa League elimination by a 2-1 defeat to 10-man PAOK Salonika.

Redknapp made nine changes to the team that beat West Brom at the weekend, with only Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe keeping their places.
