Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson backed Jonny Evans to start in defence at Everton in the Barclays Premier League today.

Evans, sent off in last week’s derby thrashing by Manchester City, was restored after suspension alongside Nemanja Vidic, while Rio Ferdinand sat on the bench.

Ashley Young was ruled out through injury while Everton were without the established trio of Sylvain Distin, Phil Neville and Tim Cahill while in-form Royston Drenthe is suspended.
